MOS for Agriculture, Shri Mohanbhai Kundariya paid a successful visit to Lithuania on 30 September – 3 October 2015.

MOS held bilateral talks in Vilnius with Lithuanian Vice Minister for Agriculture Mr. Vilius Martusevičius. In delegation level talks on October 01, both sides agreed that there was significant potential for intensifying bilateral cooperation in agriculture, particularly in sectors like food and dairy processing. Indian Ambassador to Poland and Lithuania Ajay Bisaria along with First Secretary Meena and Honorary Consul, Wing Commander Rajinder Chaudhary, accompanied the MoS for the talks. Senior officials of the Agriculture Ministry of Lithuania and the Ambassador of Lithuania to India Mr. Talat-Kelpsa accompanied the Lithuanian Minister. Mr. Kundaria briefed the Lithuanian side on the latest agricultural initiatives in India including soil health cards to be given to 140 million farmers and special irrigation schemes. The Lithuanian side briefed the Indian team on the latest developments in Lithuanian agriculture including plans to export wheat grains and dairy products. The sides agreed to collaborate in research and in the field of agricultural technology. It was agreed that a Lithuanian delegation comprising officials, scientists and business representatives would visit India to take forward the conversation. A bilateral agreement on agricultural cooperation could also be signed during the visit.

The visit was significant since MOS was the first political dignitary to visit Lithuania since 2011. The Lithuanian side expressed repeated appreciation for the visit.
